Rudder Alignment

I had my Laser up on the dolly with the rudder installed. It looked by eye that the rudder was not perpendicular to the deck. I checked it with my Stabila(highest quality level). The rudder was several degrees out. I had to ream out the grudgeons a wee bit to get it correct. Meaning that the mounting holes in the deck were improperly placed.

Has anyone else ever bothered to check their rudder alignment? I think its one of those things you just assume is correct from the builder.

That is one of the things I would always advise doing when you buy a boat. Put the rudder on and the board in and make sure they line up. The board is going to flop around a little because of the play in the case but they should not be too far out.
