Buying a Boat

Hi everyone, new to boat ownership in the US. I was wonder when purchasing a sailing dingy in the US do you get a title for proof of ownership? what should i be looking for at the sale? Thank you for your advice.
 
Depends on the state where you will be sailing, I think.
May also depend on the size of the boat.
 
For most states there is a size cut off, around 14 feet. You will need to provide the state you are going to be based out of to better provide an answer as property is a state issue in the US.
 
Hull ID numbers started in 1972. Titles are state by state. Most places you do not need registration unless it has a motor.
