Booms

Does anoyone know the usual reason for water entering your boom, as after several capsizes i found water had collected in my boom

Yeah gooseneck and don't do what I did to get the water out... As i kept pushing my "personal envelope" especially on the downwind legs, I won my local club's "Freestyle Award" for my "shiny side up frequency". I figured with all that water in the boom I should let it out - drill a hole in the end plug! Right...yet another way for the water to come in and fill the boom that much faster. Please no gut wrenching laughter Shevy! Even at 54 we are never too old to learn. My only advice if you sail on salt water is to flood the inside of the boom with fresh water at the end of the day and drain it out to delay rivet/boom corrosion which will eventually spell the end of the boom in a most catastrophic failure!
