Replacing CB gaskets on Omega 14

I am restoring an Omega (circa 1975) and just received a new set of seals from Catalina Direct. As I have read here on the forum, the new seals are different design and materials from the originals.

My questions is-- if they are installed as supplied, they will overlap each other by about 1/2 inch unlike the original plastic strips which do not overlap at all. Will the overlap still allow the CB to move up and down freely enough? (What was left of the original plastic strips were too stiff to allow the board to slide up and down at all.)

Would 3M 4200 be a good sealant to use under the new sailcloth strips?

This forum is a great resource. Thanks.

I don’t have your answer but remember that water is a lubricant and what might not slide out of the water might slide nicely in the water. Would think the overlap would seal better when board is raised.

Thanks for the feedback. Since I wasn't able to actually sail the Omega before beginning to restore it, I am not sure how important those centerboard seals are.
