Anyone have suggestions on how to fix holes in hiking pants? (holes at the seat)

Was thinking of getting a large piece of very durable fabric and sewing it to the seat but that still doesn't help the holes that are there.

Wear shorts or spandex over them...?

I've had my hiking pants for 3-4 years and the seat of them looks brand new.

ditto on wearing shorts over hiking pants. buy some board shorts a full size larger than normal. pick up a 'clearance rack' pair, cause you'll only use 'em to sail in. the shorts will wear out before h-pants.

To add to that: Spandex or something tight fitting willa ctually last longer than board shorts.
