Am I out of line on the price?

I've noticed boats in Florida sell or are listed for less than just about anywhere else. I think there are just so many boats there and harsh environment that people have to discount them more. I think it's priced right, but would want trailer to be included with asking price. There are not many...

    Broken bow handle-76 sunfish

Consider using a larger cleat or recessed cleat. Something like this could work. Perko Closed Base Cleats Teardrop, 4-1/2" 2-Pack Use stainless togglers to thru bolt without having to access underneath FASCO FASTENER Stainless Steel Togglers | West Marine I would not remove the deck - way too...

    Soon to be mine?

I wouldn't buy a sunfish with DIY fiberglass repairs done either. You never know what your getting. Lots of threads here to prove it. The old hulls are only worth what $200-300, the rest of the value is in the parts. Sure you can patch it up for cheap, but to fix it right you need more than a...

    Soon to be mine?

Yeah anytime you see missing trim that's an indication of damage. Any damage on a sunfish hull will easily cost in excess of the hull value so the only thing left of value is the parts.

    Buying a new Sunfish

If it was me buying new, for the money I'd get a big-fish from island packet yachts. Should be much better quality and doesn't cost much more.

Advice for a beginner looking to buy a Sunfish

Lots of info out there on the web. Price - I paid $1,000 for a 1980 hull with a racing sail, spare sail, original rudder and daggerboard, and trailer. Boat was in good usable condition and ready to sail. I thought that was a good deal. Without trailer same boat would of been a good deal at $600...

    Potentially buying a Sunfish

I'd pass as the new rudder conversion would likely exceed the cost of the boat. Also crack on deck, and obvious old repairs on the hull, old sail, etc. You'll be into it for what you can get a nice turn key sunfish that needs nothing. Might as well spend the $1,000 and buy a good turn key...

    Sunfish newbie Questions repair/upgrade

Yeah good catch. I think I paid around $20 for a dozen. You can find them at different places and we all know that west marine is as expensive as it gets for marine anything. Still cheap tho considering cost and headache avoided.

    Sunfish newbie Questions repair/upgrade

They make a stainless steel plate backed fastener that allows you to insert the backing into the hole and screw into it with a bolt without having to get behind the fiberglass. FASCO FASTENER Stainless Steel Togglers | West Marine It's called a stainless steel toggler. Turn the plate down...

Where to find a shorter Tiller

OK, so I finally bought a sunfish after 5-10 years of wishing/wanting. What a blast I've had so far cept that I don't care for the raised edges on the cockpit and the tiller is too long such that when I want to sit on the back center of cockpit there is not enough room for my butt and the...

Please school me on Dolphin Sr.

Thanks for responding. As a powerboater, weight is of value to me as it's typically indicative of a better built boat and also creates a better ride. After much thought and research have decided to save up for a much newer sunfish. I like the dolphin design more, but think a newer post 1986...

Please school me on Dolphin Sr.

I'm shopping for a sunfish and came across a few Dolphin Sr. sailboats in TX. They appear to fit my needs a bit better than a sunfish in that they are a little bigger and heavier and have a built in cooler. Primary use would be on Lake Texoma with 1-2 adults or my young kids. No racing just...
