Sunfish PN

I'd like to buy and race a Sunfish in a handicap fleet full of Comets Toppers and Lasers but here in England there is no published Portsmouth Yardstick. Laser performance just pointed me towards Wikipedia, no help. does anyone know the PY?

Kudos for contemplating buying a Sunfish in the UK. You will be a rare bird (fish?).
It's my understanding though that in the UK something other than the (US) Portsmouth Yardstick is used for handicap racing.

PS: The RYA yardstick has the Laser at 1091. I will use that number in the following calculation.
The US number for the Laser is 91.1 and for the Sunfish it's 99.6.
Putting on my math hat, it seems that a reasonable RYA Portsmouth number for the Sunfish would be
(1091 x 99.6)/91.1 = 1193.

Thanks for that, you've been a great help and saved me from annoying the club committee, I've bought the boat and it's a great sail, I've sailed one before in the Greek Islands so I knew what to expect, I've just got to get used to centre main and I'll be out racing.
Best regards
Steve

Please give us a report of your adventures in UK waters. What were the reactions of the members of your club seeing this strange fish in their pond?

Here is a link to an old thread that might be of interest:

Steve, Whereabouts are you located? I grew up sailing Sunfish in the US, and have just purchased one to sail here in the UK - on Christchurch Harbour.

Sorry for the 5 month delay, I sail, and the boat is berthed, at Crawley Mariners in Felbridge Sussex along with my other boats a Gull and a Skipper, but Christchurch Harbour sounds a great venue. Our club cruises regularly from Itchenor. If you don't mind I'll let you know when during this summer I'll be cartopping the Sunfish to the West country. It might be good to sail in company at Christchurch. BTW centre main is proving difficult for me to master so I don't think I'll be racing the Sunfish until the Autumn and I'll stick to the Gull for lake racing until then.
