Foam block to keep spars from scratching deck

I am a new owner of a new Sunfish. At our club there are boats with a foam block that is being used to hold the spars off the deck. I have tried to find a set on online to buy but have had no luck. Does anyone know where I can purchase a set or the material to make ?

If it's your own boat, just exercise some care raising and lowering the rig.
Personally, I use my arm/hand to hold the boom off the deck.

I have seen people place a PFD under the point where the two spars meet; works fine.

Hi Miki

Are they used to keep the spars from scratching the deck? Do you have any pictures? While you look for them you could use a small section of pool noodle, use zip ties to hold it on. There also should be a boom cap on the forward end with a tab (like the outhaul caps) that sticks down, that cap keeps the interlocking bolt from scratching the foredeck.

Thank you for the suggestions. I did ask where they came from and was told the company that made them was out of business . Using a noodle that I could try to cut semi circles to hold the mast may work. Good idea. I think I remember seeing the life jacket used as a kid. Possible also but I do use a cover on the boat so have to see if it would fit under the cover. thanks for the ideas!!

I use the foam blocks I got in a kayak car-top carry kit...they have a nice 'v' shape and are non-slip...I tie the spars/boom down onto them and trailer that way...have had no problems.
