Attached clip from Rooster shows a very nice tacK!
Note boat is flat going into tack in Rooster clip.
Most books from experts say start flat, and I think that is better too.
Each one of us must choose whether to be in the tent pissing out, or outside the tent pissing in. Its been 4 years? Lets talk about something constructive.
I like slipping a flag style indicator (cheap at west marine) into front of sail sleve at top of mast. it shows wind shadow when running, and tells who's shadow you are in. it also helps with judgement of how far by the lee you are. upwind it has no value to me.
I suffered from tennis elbow from laser sailing for a year. Here's what I did at the advice of a trainer and it worked.
I work on strengthening my grip and wrists by doing wrist curls. I use a 10 or 15 lbs barbell, stabilize by forearm on a bench or table, grip the bar, and curl upward...
Laser sails are made from Dacron, approximately 4 oz, the cloth has fairly light resin, and evenly weighted warp and fill treads, the fabric is similar to what would be used for a medium-to-light genoa on a small (under 25 ft) crusing boat.
much of the rooster CD seems to be on their website too. Rooster excellent articles on their website that have some imbedded video clips. Very good explanation of sailing by the lee.
There is also a video tape that used to be available called "Luthor's Favorite Laser Clips", or something...
I am not worried, and I do want to sail more! Reflecting on boat weighing experience, its easy to get kids psyched out... its too bad that happened.
And, I admit its in my head :) I will purge those negative thoughts with facts by weighing my boat -- thanks to your data.
Maybe I'll go...
interesting re: no offical numerical value for minimum weight of hull in rules.
many classes have all up weights, (lightning 700 lbs), some classes even have pitching moment measurements. Although most all classes are more "open" than lasers.
I'll use 128 lbs benchmark. I was going to...
i vote for the later. you need to let off the vang all the way when running in all conditions. you also need to put maximum vang on (so easing sail barely lifts boom-end when easing out sail in max breeze) I hope this helps :)
I posted once, saw rail meat, and thought it was somebody's idea of a joke. (Which is OK) I am glad that Bradley changed the designations, Afterall, I am a laser sailor -- I can hike !
I have to bolt-on or re-rivet the bail that holds on my mainsheet blocks at the end of the boom. (The bail is wobbling).
Do I have to drill out the rivets before the end-cap comes off?
Any tips?
Thanks,

Go deep! start by bearing away till you are 15-25% apparent wind by the lee --
I got a cheap flag-style mast head fly that I slip inside the front of the sock at the top of the sail to see how deep I am
when you switch from btl to reaching, turn big and sheet in.
rule of thumb is not...
