    casual sailing?

No, my Laser wasn't drifting loose. It was tied to a Clorox bottle buoy about 20 feet from shore. I'll do that when I plan to sail again later in the day. I took that picture about three years ago in the late afternoon. The boat looked so nice out there I couldn't resist. Barry

    casual sailing?

Definitely! My Laser has been used recreationally that way for years. It's nice to cruise around the lake, visit neighbors, and remember how well she did in regattas in the 1970s. When I meet up with another Laser or a Force Five, it's not unusual to engage in an informal sprint race. Barry

    Older boat's sail numbers

MacKenzie, Quoting from the ILCA By-Laws (Amended November 11, 1974) in Dick Tillman's Laser Sailing (1975) which refers to a boat of the vintage you now own: Class Emblem and Sail Numbers 20. The registration number of each boat, as molded into the deck under the bow eye or into the...

    Older boat's sail numbers

MacKenzie, #255 is my boat (Performance Sailcraft, Montreal, Québec, Canada). The serial number is stamped under the bow eye. I had her original sail on that day with 255 in red. I referred to Dick Tillman's Laser Sailing (1975) when I applied the sail numbers. The ILCA rules, in those...

    One extremely old Laser...

Yes, I took that picture this past Labor Day weekend, rigged just the way I bought her with the original Elvstrom sail without the window, vang and spars. I upgraded to a new boom because the original has a very poorly designed outhaul cleat which never securely held the outhaul. I also...

    One extremely old Laser...

MacKenzie, The numbers should be under the bow eye. The numbers are not raised that much, so it's possible that the repaint has obscured the numbers somewhat. Look closely for them.

    Mainsheet/Traveller Blocks

I've never taped my traveller blocks, Glenn. With years of use, the sister clips tangle infrequently. I use the "tug-on-the-sheet" method during jibes.

    One extremely old Laser...

I agree with you, Glenn. I've had #255 since new. She's been carefully cared for and remains firm and dry, a credit to her Canadian builders. MacKenzie, the hull number on my laser is under the bow eye.
