Laser 2 jib halyard jammed

Hey everyone,

"Learning" how to get ready for the water in my driveway. Mast is up. All is well. Mainsail halyard moves freely but the jib halyard pulls through only 3-4 feet then jams tight and will not move any further.

I'm assuming there's a too big knot inside the mast connecting the wire to the line, and it's getting hung up on something inside the mast but I have no idea how to get to it to fix it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.
Doug

One thing to do is to take out the pulleys where they are riveted into the mast, you can then get a bit of a look at what's inside.

So you have an internal jib halyard after all?

The halyard tail shouldn't be knotted but spliced to the wire part, otherwise the joint won't fit through the exit block. Can you pull the joint through the top exit block? Does the the halyard move ok when the mast is down or when the boat is on its side? What type and thickness is the rope tail? Which type is the diamond spreader, through-the-mast or external?

Pictures pictures pictures.

LaLi, Yes. The main and jib halyards are both inside the mast. The joint will not exit at the top either.
Today I tried to get the job halyard to move past the 4 foot blockage when the mast was up, down, and flipped on both sides when the mast was horizontal. Something inside is stopping the movement of the joint.

I can't help but wonder what advantage an inside mast halyard provides.
I wonder what problems might arise by just running the halyard up on the outside of the mast like a catamaran.

Fair enough. I owe pics.
I'll try to take some tomorrow to show you not only this little conundrum, but also the various and sundry holes up and down the mast where I suspect cleats and other pulls are supposed to be.

Thanks very much for sharing your expertise.

I’m having the exact same problem on a Laser2 that I just got. Did you ever come up with a cause or solution?
